There are several brands in the watch industry that owe their legend not to marketing, ambassadors or happy coincidences, but purely watchmaking achievements. Jaeger-LeCoutlre became famous for the rectangular Reverso with a revolving case, the Zenith with a 5 Hz chronograph of El-Primero, the Breguet with a spinning in a cage escapement aptly named the tourbillon, and Audemars Piguet with the extraordinary forms of the Royal Oak case. Vulcain, in turn, made history as the creator of a functional watch with the complication of a mechanical alarm. The project was created in the 1940s and gained fame to
such an extent that it became the choice of American presidents,
led by Dwight D. Eisenhower and Harry Truman. Vulcain, in contrast to the competition also experimenting with the alarm, designed a mechanism with two spring drums. Vulcain had gotten quiet for some time… until now. The manufactory located in Le Locle has a new owner and returns with a bang, reactivating its most recognizable model. The design of the new
Cricket was entrusted to the young Guillaume Laidet,

Vulcain Cricket will be available in two dimensions: classic 36 mm and more universal, adapted to modern times, 39 mm. Both differ not only in the diameter of the polished steel case (12.8 mm thick in both cases), but also in the designs of the available dials. The mechanism will remain the same – the manually wound V-10 caliber with 42 hours of power reserve.

Vulcan Cricket
The classic, elegant chronograph from Schaffhausen will now be available in a new monochrome version, powered by the IWC’s own automatic caliber.
Named after part of the famous Italian town on the Adriatic Sea, it functions in the Swiss brand’s portfolio somewhat overshadowed by the more recognizable Portugieser and Pilot’s Watch collections. However, it has been present in it for years, almost unchanged. Women often reach for Portofino, which in a way explains the choice of Gisele Bündchen as the “face” of the photo session of the new model. Gisele is Tomek Kiełtyka’s favorite – let’s leave her to him and go straight to the timepiece.
The Portofino Chronograph 39 in the newest version is above all a new movement. The Werk has a column wheel, has a power reserve of 46 hours and a balance clocked at 4 Hz.
From the outside, the Portfino 39 model has not changed at all. The oval case has the title 39 mm in diameter, 13 mm in thickness, two mushroom buttons on the stopwatch, a crown signed with the logo and a pair of sapphire glasses. The monochrome dial in a metallic silver color has superimposed, simple hour indices and two small dials. At the height of There is a small seconds dial at 6 and a 30-minute timer on the opposite side.
A bit to break the elegant character of the watch, IWC put together a case with a strap made of calfskin in a shade of light brown, equipped with a quick change system. The leather comes from a certified Swiss source.
