Is it better to drive through Europe or take the train?

If you don’t have much time and are looking to explore the country, driving through Europe can be a great option. It will be hard to find places to stop to explore the city so it is possible to get bored driving. Driving in Europe can be difficult due to the differences in driving styles and languages. If you prefer to travel at your own pace, and enjoy as much as the scenery, the train is the better choice. It is also possible to stop for food and sightseeing at any time without worrying about traffic or getting lost. It will cost you more than driving and can be very difficult to find a place.

There are a lot of opportunities to choose from, but you have look for the best options in given situations.

It’s better to drive through the Europe, If possible!

Because of high summer demand, European airports have experienced staff shortages. Train travel is now available to take you on your next trip around Europe. Long lines are most likely not. Europe has a complex rail network that connects almost all major cities and makes it easy and affordable to travel between them. You can choose from inter-city trains or larger lines such as the Eurostar that crosses the channel between London and Paris. It can be used even for a single day trip. You can travel from Amsterdam and Munich for a bar-hopping adventure filled with delicious local beers or a ski escape from Milan and the Swiss Alps.

After the completion of the Channel Tunnel, in 1994, Eurostar began running trains between London-Paris. It connects the United Kingdom with mainland Europe at speeds up to 186 mph. The journey takes less than 2 hours. Eurostar passengers can connect to major cities such as Brussels, Amsterdam, Lyon and even directly to Disneyland Paris (the journey from London takes only 2 hours and 40 mins).

Don’t drive through the Europe alone if you are not sure about the area itself.

 Another Options

Thalys is another popular way to travel across Europe. It is part of the newly formed Eurostar Group. Thalys was launched in the early 90s as a collaboration between four rail companies from four countries: Germany, France, Belgium and the Netherlands . These trains can still be booked and taken by travelers throughout Europe. They go to twelve stations in France, plus more than a dozen stations in Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands.

A Eurail pass is another option for travelers looking to book a single ticket for their entire vacation. This “all-in one train ticket” allows you to access most European trains and gives flexibility to travel. Travelers can travel to 40,000 destinations in 33 countries with participating rail companies, including Eurostar and Thalys. Different train companies exist in different countries, such as the Deutsche Bahn in Germany or the SNCF France. These are the main rail companies that travelers need to know in major European countries.

Traveling in European countries

In France and Spain

If you are travelling by Intercity, high-speed, or intercity trains in France, Italy, and Spain, you can book your train tickets in advance. Tickets prices change like air fares. They are cheaper if you book ahead than when you purchase on the day. While the most expensive fares allow for cancellations or changes to travel plans and refunds, the cheapest ones don’t. You will need to book ahead, as all tickets include a reserved seat.

In the UK and Germany

You have two options when you travel on Intercity trains in the UK, Germany, and Austria. You can either buy your tickets in advance or on-the-day. If you are looking to save money, and be able to make a commitment to a train, it is possible to buy tickets in advance. These advance tickets are known by different names in different countries: Advance Train Tickets in UK, Sparpreis Germany, and Spaschiene Austria.

The UK’s fares are determined by how busy the trains are, so tickets for less-popular travel times are usually cheaper than those for peak times. For more information, check our Off-Peak times page.

You can purchase a flexible, full-price train ticket that allows you to travel any time you like. You get to choose on any train at any hour of the day. Although they are more expensive, flexible full-price tickets allow you to change your booking and request a refund if necessary.

You can either buy your ticket online or in advance, but you won’t be able to reserve a seat.
